CONNECT EnAbling Change Post-Secondary Design Competition

The CONNECT EnAbling Change Post-Secondary Design Competition is a provincial, post-secondary design competition that will emphasize the importance of universal design principles across all disciplines. The competition will be divided into 6 categories:
Architecture,
Landscape/Urban Design,
Interior Design,
Graphic Design,
Industrial Design,
and Fashion Design/Apparel.

Students will be asked to submit projects that illustrate the principles of universal design:

Universal design is defined as the design of products and environments to be usable by all people to the greatest extent possible, without the need for  adaptation or specialized design.

This exciting competition is open to all currently enrolled post-secondary students studying design at the undergraduate level in the province of Ontario and will allow Design Exchange and the Government of Ontario to showcase the winning talent while promoting the
importance of universal and accessible design.

Objectives
To...
  • increase awareness about the importance of accessibility for all Ontarians
  • provide resources and references for design professors that will encourage the
  • incorporation of universal design principles within the curriculum
  • create an accessible resource (with competition results) for professors and
  • students that will outline universal design principles and the necessity for improved
CONNECT EnAbling Change Post-Secondary Design Competition: Why participate?
Prizes (1st prize: $1,500; 2nd prize: $1,000; 3rd prize: $500) in each of the six categories
CONNECT Certificates of Accomplishment awarded to all winning and honourable mention entries
Featured in CONNECT Student Design competition exhibition in June 2012
Winning projects featured on Design Exchange website
Winning projects included in EnAbling Change publication accessibility in Ontario showcase the design talent in Ontario increase the community’s knowledge and awareness of accessibility issues by highlighting the winning entries in an exhibition, online and in a publication
