Design a great t-shirt for Firefox 2011
Design a great t-shirt for Firefox
If you can read this you may be one of the many who use Firefox as the preferred browser for surfing the Internet. You now have a chance to help celebrate the coming release of Firefox 4.0 by creating a cool t-shirt.
Mozilla, the developers of this free browser states:
“Create a unique t-shirt design that captures the essence of the upcoming release of Firefox 4. You’ll be designing for the front only, as the back will already have the Firefox word-mark printed.”
Things to consider before designing the t-shirt
Mozilla strongly recommends designers to familiarize themselves with several aspects of the Firefox brand and what should be considered when creating their images:
“* Mozilla has given the browser a completely fresh new look, and loaded it with cutting edge new features….
* At its core, Firefox is about people and is powered by an amazing global community of individuals working together to make the web a better place for everyone.
* You’re highly encouraged to interpret the above themes in creative, abstract and interesting ways. Please don’t be literal. For example, note how the Firefox 3 t-shirt design embodies the concept of community in a creative way.
* It’s not a requirement to use the Firefox logo in your design.”
General contest rules
* The best placement for the design is a 10-by-10 inch square on the front of the t-shirt
* Be sure to describe what colored t-shirt your design will be on

* Your images should be in hi-res (300 dpi)

Henkel Interactive Packaging Design Contest
In order to best satisfy customer’s wishes, Henkel is continually working to develop new adhesive systems. The packaging for these systems does much more than simply offer protection during transport – it must also facilitate their use, draw attention to the product and point to additional intelligent options. In order to continually meet these requirements, developers at Henkel are resorting to the new concept of ‘crowdsourcing’: for the first time, all users can proactively influence the design of adhesives packaging and, in doing so, they will gain valuable insights into the field of packaging design. Starting on 7th February, all creative people are invited to participate in the international Henkel Adhesives Packaging Design Contest. Design proposals may be submitted at the web address: www.packdesign-contest.com.
Invitation to participate via an online platformInterested designers can find all the relevant information on the online platform which has been set up especially for the contest. In a few steps, design proposals in various categories can be uploaded: 2-Component-Adhesives and Mixing, Adhesive Application, Adhesive Dosage, Opening and Closure. All registered users are then able to comment on and assess the designs. Packaging developers from Henkel will also contribute to the exchange of ideas. Generally, participation and dialogue will play an important role in the Henkel Adhesives Packaging Design Contest: the contest will be followed on Facebook, Twitter and in design blogs.
Participation is worthwhile –attractive prizes await the winnersAfter the creative stage of the contest, a panel of experts consisting of specialists from Henkel and respected experts from the academic world will be formed. It will assess the submitted proposals according to five criteria: apart from the attractiveness of the design, the sustainability required of all Henkel products and packaging, the innovative power, the usefulness and the efficiency of the packaging proposals will be considered in the assessment. Besides receiving valuable feedback from the panel of experts, the winners of the contest will be awarded attractive prizes: The first three places will win 3,000, 1,500 and 500 euros respectively.

Joliet Launches SMART Policing Community Logo & Tag Line Design Contest
The City of Joliet and the Joliet Community Committee for SMART Policing are issuing a challenge to the area’s talented and creative individuals to enter a design contest and create the official logo and tag line that will represent the community campaign toward Joliet SMART Policing initiatives. The logo and tag line will premier in spring of 2011, and will be used in all mediums of marketing this campaign.
As a part of the overall SMART Policing effort, members of the Joliet area community have formed the Joliet Community Committee for SMART Policing to assist in the goals of: encouraging the reporting of gun violence as well as methods of safe, anonymous reporting techniques via phone and text.
The committee is made up of representatives from: the University of St. Francis, Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce, Joliet Public Library, Joliet Township High School, Joliet Park District, Joliet Area YMCA, Forest Preserve District of Will County, Spanish Community Center, Forest Park Community Center, and additional community agencies assisting the City of Joliet and Joliet Police Department.
The SMART Policing campaign extends from the grant initiatives received by the Joliet Police Department to help reduce gun violence in the City of Joliet. As gun violence continues to be a problem, the Joliet Police Department continually work hard to solve these crimes; however, detectives often encounter witnesses that are unwilling to report information to help solve the crime/shootings.
The community campaign being developed will work to introduce the message that it’s okay to report information. A creative of a successful Logo & Tag Line will help convey this message and lead to increase arrests of shooters, fewer shootings in neighborhoods, and safer communities for residents.
The logo and tag line do not have to include the term “SMART Policing.” The Logo and tag line should engage, excite and encourage community members to make a personal connection to the need to report gun violence and the Crimestoppers anonymous phone and “text-a-tip” reporting methods.

You’re invited to create a broad range of design concepts and innovations for technology products that demonstrate fresh approaches and responsible solutions for green computing technologies.
If so, here is your chance to do something about it by creating innovative new uses for existing electronic waste, as well as its future prevention.
Through the Second International E-Waste Design Competition, participants are asked to explore solutions to both remediate the existing e-waste problem and prevent e-waste generation in the future.
The spirit of this competition is to prompt the industrialized world to dialogue about product designs for environmentally responsible green computing and entertainment. The goals of this competition are to learn about ways to reuse e-waste for new and productive means, explore your own ideas for how to address e-waste problems and contribute to the body of knowledge that advances the practice of environmentally responsible product design for current and future computing technology products.
