Alexandria Tea Party in partnership with New Renaissance in Education (NRIE) invites entries to its Young Person's Essay Contest: What My Freedom Means to Me
Contest Guidelines
1. Contestants must be U.S. citizens or lawful U.S. residents under the age of 30 on July 4, 2011 who reside in Virginia, the District of Columbia, or Maryland. Active duty military legally domiciled in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland are also eligible.
2. There is no entry fee.
3. Submit one entry of 250 words or less in English on "What My Freedom Means to Me" no later than June 24, 2011 to contest@alexandriateaparty.com. Your entry must be an original work (not plagiarized) which has not previously appeared in any medium. Entries that exceed the prescribed length will not be considered.
4. Please provide the following attestation in your email - I hereby certify that I am a U.S. citizen or lawful resident, that I reside in --- [fill in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia], that I will be --- [fill-in] years of age on July 4, 2011, and that I am the sole author of this submission.

5. Entries will be judged primarily on the strength of the content. (However, poor grammar, punctuation, or spelling will not help your chances.) Any quotations or copyrighted material used in the essay must be properly identified in the text (no footnotes).
6. Entries not meeting these submission guidelines will be automatically disqualified.
7. Results are in the sole discretion of the Alexandria Tea Party.

* all winners will also receive an inspirational liberty-themed DVD
Winners will be announced and their entries read at the Alexandria Tea Party 4th of July event. Winners not present will be notified by email. Winning entries may be posted to ATP's website and used for other Alexandria Tea Party purposes, identified by first name, age, and jurisdiction only (DC/MD/VA). ATP may seek permission from the contestant if other attribution is desired.

Free contest, AMOS Student Essay Competition 2011 (theme: atmospheric/ oceanographic science), top prize: $300
Deadline: 5 September 2011
AMOS is seeking review essays on any topic of atmospheric or oceanographic science for
the 2011 Student Essay Competition.
The winner will receive a prize of $300 and their essay will be published in the AMOS Bulletin. Honourable Mentions may also receive $100.
Word Limit: 5000 words
Target Audience: readers of the AMOS Bulletin
Entries are invited from current undergraduate university students (up to but not including Masters level). Why not adapt the literature review of your thesis, or turn that assignment you have slaved over into an entry, and give yourself a chance at winning $300 and of having a publication and prize to add to your CV? Finalists’ essays may also be published in the AMOS Bulletin.
Entries should be supplied via email as a pdf or in a format readable by Open Office, and accompanied by details of the entrant’s contact address and his or her university enrolment and a declaration that the essay is the student's own work..

The Fountainhead Essay Contest Information

Topics
Select ONE of the following three topics:
- After the Stoddard trial, Dominique Francon marries Peter Keating. Given her love for the integrity of Howard Roark's buildings and person, why does she do this? What is she seeking from the marriage? How does her action of marrying Peter relate to her deeper convictions and conflicts?
- In dynamiting Cortlandt Homes, Howard Roark breaks the law. What is his moral and philosophical argument for the rectitude of his action?
- Choose the scene in The Fountainhead that is most meaningful to you. Analyze that scene in terms of the wider themes in the book.
Judging
Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of The Fountainhead.Essay submissions are evaluated in a fair and unbiased four-round judging process. Judges are individually selected by the Ayn Rand Institute based on a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Ayn Rand’s works. To ensure the anonymity of our participants, essay cover sheets are removed after the first round. Winners’ names are unknown to judges until after essays have been ranked and the contest results finalized. The Ayn Rand Institute checks essays with Ithenticate plagiarism detection software.
Rules
- No application is required. Contest is open to students worldwide.
- Entrant must be in the 11th or 12th grade.
- To avoid disqualification, mailed in essays must include a stapled cover sheet with the following information:
- your name and address;
- your e-mail address (if available);
- the name and address of your school;
- topic selected (#1, 2 or 3 from list above);
- your current grade level; and
- (optional) the name of the teacher who assigned the essay, if you are completing it for classroom credit.
- Essay must be no fewer than 800 and no more than 1,600 words in length and double-spaced.
- One entry per student, please.
- Essay must be postmarked no later than April 26, 2011, no later than 11:59 PM, Pacific Standard Time.
- The Ayn Rand Institute has the right to provide contest deadline extensions when deemed appropriate.
- Essay must be solely the work of the entrant. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
- Decisions of the judges are final.
- Employees of the Ayn Rand Institute, its board of directors and their immediate family members are not eligible for this contest. Past first-place winners are not eligible for this contest.
- All entries become the property of the Ayn Rand Institute and will not be returned.
- Winners, finalists, semifinalists and all other participants will be notified via e-mail and/or by mail by July 26, 2011.
- Contest winners agree to allow the Ayn Rand Institute to post their names on any of ARI’s affiliated websites. The winning first place essay may be posted in its entirety on any of these websites with full credit given to the author.
- Winners will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes.

contest 2011 : Civitan Essay Contest due 3/11/11
CIVITAN'S PURPOSE in sponsoring the contest is to encourage students to study the time-honored and time-tested privileges and responsibilities of citizenship and, from their knowledge, to express in writing, ideas which relate to good citizenship in the modern world.
Any high school student within the Plymouth Canton School District is eligible to compete. Essay must follow directions on application and MUST be written by the student.
The final manuscript must be submitted in triplicate to Miss Mandeville, Salem High English Dept., Room 2106.
Instructions for the essay are attached or may be found in the scholarship drawer.
Deadline for submission is Friday, March 11, 2011 at 1:16 (before 6th hour). Any essay submitted after 1:16 on that date will be rejected.
