Nikon Photo Contest, 2012–2013

Nikon Photo Contest, 2012–2013
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 30th November 2012 Nikon announces that the Nikon Photo Contest will open on 1st December. The entry period for one of the world’s most respected photography competitions is from 1st December 2012 until 28th February 2013.

The Nikon Photo Contest (NPC) is the new name for what was formerly the Nikon Photo Contest International, which has been running since 1969. In this, the competition’s 34th year, as well as a new name, the NPC has undergone some important changes including the establishment of a movie category.

The NPC is welcoming entries in four categories: single photographs (Category A), photo story (Category B, two to five images that present a theme or idea), photographic videos (Category C, featuring videos of up to 45 seconds in length), and Motion Snapshots (Category D). In category D Nikon is requesting works in the new Motion Snapshot image format that combines still images and movies taken with Nikon 1 system cameras.
Both professional and amateur photographers of all abilities and experience from every country are eligible to enter.

The judges of the NPC include well-known photographers active on the global scene who will select a total of 64 works for first, second, and third prizes in each category, together with a Grand Prize for the very best entry. A new addition is the Participants’ Award for Most Popular Entry, which will be chosen by the contest entrants. Winning entries are to be announced in the summer of 2013 and are to be included in a public exhibition (the location, date, and other details of which are yet to be announced).

Winning entrants will be awarded with money to spend on Nikon products ranging from \100,000 (approx. €970[1]) to \1,000,000 (approx. €9,700[2]) as well being included in the exhibition of prize winning works.

Jack, who organizes the Wellymoot Tolkien Society, would also like to get the word out about the box office at the Embassy Theatre.
It looks like Wellington MAY have a line party. We held Welly-moot (the meeting of Wellington’s Tolkien enthusiasts) at the Embassy Theatre yesterday. I spoke to the Elly, the manager there, and asked her when Hobbit tickets to the December 13th opening would be available. She said at 12:01am Nov 7th (online), and 09:00am next morning (physical box office). I asked her if she would consider opening the physical box office at midnight as well, and she said she’d consider it IF she got enough demand for it.
Please if you know anyone in Wellington who wants to stand in line for the world’s FIRST official tickets (keep in mind our midnight happens an hour before anyone else’s midnight!!), get them to send an email to Elly, the manager of Wellington’s Embassy Theatre, at manager@deluxe.co.nz, with a subject of “Please open the Box Office at 12:0am, Nov 7th for Hobbit Tickets!”. If it opens, I plan to be there on the night – let’s see how many others we can get to join us!
Elly is a very nice person, and TOTALLY enthusiastic about The Hobbit, so please be nice to her when you email her!
There is a lot going on for Hobbit fans in New Zealand! If you live in Wellington, please join Jack in emailing Elly at the Embassy Theatre. And if she does open up early for all of the Hobbit fans, I’m sure she wouldn’t complain if you brought her some coffee and a breakfast pastry!

SEARCA PHOTO CONTEST 2012

SEARCA PHOTO CONTEST 2012 will award entries that best capture the importance of water. We are looking for photographs that emphasize the usefulness of water, the challenges that it faces, and the opportunities and threats it brings. Photographic subjects may highlight or focus on the following sub-themes:

Water in Our Daily Lives. Water, no matter how abundant or ubiquitous should not be taken for granted. Examples of these are photos that display people’s everyday interactions with water. Water and Food Security. Images may depict the role water plays in agriculture, and the processing, transport, and marketing of food. Water and Climate Change. Too little or too much water due to the changing climate has caused floods, droughts, pollution, and scarcity, affecting millions of people. Photographs may show solutions or recurrent problems and the effects of climate change on water resources in rural or urban areas.
