DEADLINE: June 30, 2011
AWARD: The winning author will receive a prize of $2,500 and publication in the Society’s journal, California Legal History. Second and third place winners may also be chosen, and all winning papers will be posted on the Society’s website, www.cschs.org.
TOPIC: Original, unpublished scholarly writing on any aspect of California legal history, ranging from the Supreme Court itself, and its justices and decisions, to local events of legal historical importance—including biography, significant cases, independent state interpretation, the California Constitution, and reorganization of the court system, as well as areas of law such as criminal law, civil rights, family law, tort liability, environmental law, and taxation—in any time period from 1846 to the present.

JUDGES: The entries will be judged by a panel of legal historians.
ELIGIBILITY: The submission must be written during the student’s enrollment in a school of law or as a graduate student in history, political science, government,
public policy, or a related field.
GUIDELINES: The maximum length of submissions is 6,000 words, exclusive of footnotes, in 12-point type, double-spaced, with 1" margins. To ensure anonymity, the author’s name should appear only on a separate cover page with mailing address, telephone number, email address, and name of school. Entries should be submitted as an email attachment in electronic format (Word, WordPerfect, or pdf).

Industrial CASE Awards for 2011 - deadline 29th April 2011
Environmental Sustainability KTN have been allocated four EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Industrial CASE Awards for 2011, We are now inviting applications for these industry-sponsored PhD studentships in areas that align with our and EPSRC’s strategic directions and research priority areas.
Industrial CASE Awards are three and a half year postgraduate awards aimed at enabling companies to take the lead in defining and arranging projects, with an academic partner of their choice.
The estimated total award for each studentship is £69,121. The total contribution from the non-academic partner to each project must be a minimum of ? of the EPSRC award. This will mean that organisations must be prepared to commit to a minimum cash contribution of £23,040 to each project. This will be in addition to costs involved in joint supervision and reimbursing each student’s expenses in attending the partner’s premises for at least 3 months over a typical 3.5 year award.
Industry partners should submit their applications to arrive no later than 17:00 on 29th April 2011.

on 15-16 July 2011 for the finals. Their photos will be displayed in a
dedicated exhibition in the ITS#TEN location and viewed by all the
guests of the event: international press, opinion leaders,
professional photographers.

Annual journalism contest goes online, deadline March 25
The 2011 SPJ San Diego Area Journalism Competition is open now, and entries will be accepted until midnight the evening of Friday, March 25.
This year, for the first time, the contest is online. All contest entries must now be submitted online (except for entries in the College Media Best Newspaper category, which must be mailed and postmarked by the contest deadline). All entries must be submitted by the deadline of March 25, and payment must be made online by credit card (preferred) or by checks mailed and postmarked by Friday, April 1.

The contest recognizes the best in print, broadcast and online journalism from calendar year 2010 in 130 categories for professional and student media, plus five special awards with cash prizes: the Sol Price Prize for Responsible Journalism, the First Amendment Award, the Herbert Lockwood “Woody” Award for humor writing, the Diversity Prize, and the James Julian Memorial Award for community service reporting.
Members get a discounted entry rate of $10 per entry (compared to $30 for non-members), so be sure to join or renew your SPJ national and chapter membership now at www.spj.org/join.asp and have your membership number handy when you get ready to submit your entries. Owego Strawberry Festival Committee Announces 2011 Logo Contest & Rules! There will be a winning design award of $ 150 !! The theme of the 31st Annual Owego Strawberry Festival to be held on Saturday June 18th will be "Strawberryville, Owego, N.Y.”
1. The 31st Annual Strawberry Festival, Owego NY and 2011 must appear in or around the design.
2. The most visible use of the logo will be on festival T-Shirts and posters, therefore it must be a graphic design.
3. Artists may submit as many entries as they wish.
4. Designs must be original work, not used elsewhere
5. Entries may be any size or shape appropriate for a T-Shirt front (no smaller than 6x6 and no larger than 12x12). Any appropriate medium may be used, however no paste-ups will be allowed.
6. Designs should consist of at the most four (4) colors, one color being the T-Shirt background and the other three being ink colors. Clean, bright designs free of small detail reproduce the best on cloth.
7. Submitting entries are required to be in final, camera-ready form. Entries may be monochrome or color, but should indicate how color will be used in the final design.
8. All entries will become the exclusive property of the Owego Strawberry Festival Committee.
9. The Owego Strawberry Festival Committee may request additional modifications to the original design.
10. DO NOT sign your entry! Attach an envelope to the back of each entry and include a note with your name, address, and telephone number.
11. All entries are due at the Tioga County Council on the Arts office at 179 Front Street, Owego, by 4:00 pm on Friday April 22, 2011.
12. The winning entry will be chosen by Friday, April 29, 2011.

The winning author will receive $1,500 and have his or her work published in Boston Review, the summer of 2012. Stories should not exceed 4,000 words and must be previously unpublished. Mailed manuscripts should be double-spaced and submitted with a cover note listing the author’s name, address, and phone number. Names should not appear on the stories themselves. Any author writing in English is eligible, unless he or she is a current student, former student, relative, or close personal friend of the judge. Simultaneous submissions are not permitted, submissions will not be returned, and submissions may not be modified after entry. A non-refundable $20 entry fee, payable to Boston Review in the form of a check or money order or by credit card, must accompany each story entered. Submissions must be postmarked no later than October 1, 2011. Manuscripts will not be returned. The winner will be announced no later than May/June 2012, on the Boston Review Web site.

The winning poet will receive $1,500 and have his or her work published in the November/December 2011 issue of Boston Review. Submit up to five unpublished poems, no more than 10 pages total.
