Education.com Launches 2011 Virtual Science Fair

Education.com, the go-to website for involved parents of school-age kids, today announced it is hosting an online contest to help ensure that every child in the United States has a chance to experience the wonder of participating in a science fair.
“Developing great scientists is a responsibility we all share. It is essential to our nation’s economic growth, security, and quality of life,” says Education.com CEO, Ronald Fortune. “Schools may be responsible for teaching our kids the nuts and bolts of science, but we believe there is a lot that parents and families can do to show kids how exciting and rewarding a life of science can be. Our virtual science fair is designed to give even the youngest students – with the support of their parents – an opportunity to experience the thrill of scientific discovery.”
Education.com is offering a total of $6,000 in scholarship prizes with 12 judged prizes and four “popular vote” prizes available ranging from $100 to $500 each. Judged prizes will be awarded based on originality, scientific thought, and presentation. Participants will compete against students of similar ages with grade categories defined as “Early Elementary School” (grades K-2), “Late Elementary School” (grades 3-5), “Middle School” (grades 6-8), and “High School” (grades 9-12). In addition to the scholarship prizes, winning projects will be featured on Education.com’s “Wall of Excellence” to serve as an inspiration to budding scientists across the country. All participants who complete the contest requirements will receive a personalized certificate of completion.
Participants can develop an original project or gain inspiration from the thousands of science fair project ideas available on Education.com. The company recommends parents help their child choose a science fair project the student is excited about and can complete independently with minimal help from adults.
Completed project reports must be submitted on Education.com by March 31, 2011 when the projects will be judged by an expert panel of judges. Visitors to Education.com will be able to vote on contestants’ projects until April 15, 2011, to determine the most popular projects. All prize winners will be announced by April 30, 2011.
An adult must complete the submission process for students under the age of 13. Additional contest information, entry instructions, and complete rules can be found on Education.com.
